Communication Rules
Voice, chat, and out-of-character conduct for DarkRP
Communication Rules
Keep comms usable so everyone can actually play. These rules stop disruptive behavior without killing the fun.
1. Voice Chat
The Standard
Don't be obnoxious. That's basically it.
| ✅ Fine | ❌ Not Fine |
|---|---|
| Talking normally | Screaming/earrape |
| Playing music at reasonable volume | Blasting distorted audio |
| Soundboard for jokes/reactions | Spamming TikTok cringe on repeat |
| Hot mic occasionally | Constant background noise |
Soundboards
Soundboards are allowed if you're using them for fun: reactions, jokes, bits like a normal person. Think "enhancing the moment" not "being annoying."
What's NOT allowed:
- Spamming the same sound repeatedly
- Playing obnoxious/cringe content on loop
- Using it to drown out other players
If people are telling you to stop and you don't, you're the problem.
DJs and Radio Hosts
You can play music through your mic or in-game entities as long as:
- It's not ear-shatteringly loud
- People nearby can still talk
- You stop when asked
2. Text Chat
Chat Conduct
- No spam. Don't flood the chat with the same message.
- No excessive caps. We can read lowercase.
Keysmashing
Frustrated keysmashing after dying is fine:
grewgerwgewrgewrw
FUCKDoing it repeatedly for no reason is spam.
OOC vs IC
| Type | How | Usage |
|---|---|---|
| In-Character (IC) | Normal chat | Your character speaking |
| Out-of-Character (OOC) | // or /ooc | Real person speaking |
Using OOC info for IC advantage is metagaming. Keep them separate.
3. Declaring Hostile Actions
There is no advert command. Hostile RP runs through the Interactions menu (hold G), and the server announces the action for you when it starts.
You can't forget to declare, word it wrong, or claim you adverted when you didn't. The server writes the announcement, and it logs it.
| Action | How |
|---|---|
| Mug, Kidnap, Raid, Counter | Interactions menu (G) |
| Terror | Interactions menu (G), terrorist only |
| Bank / PD Raid | Interactions menu (G) |
Typing it in chat is not declaring it
Writing "raiding you" in chat does nothing. If you did not start the action through the menu, the server did not register it, and as far as staff are concerned it never happened.
Full mechanics for each action are in the Action Rules.
What Needs No Declaration At All
- Self-defense
- Defending your base from raiders
- Hitman kills (silent by design)
- Police actions (warrants, arrests)
4. Discord & External Comms
Let's be realistic: everyone uses Discord while playing. That's fine.
The Actual Rule
Don't use external comms to gain an unfair advantage that ruins the game for others.
Examples of being a dick:
- ❌ "You're being raided, come counter!"
- ❌ "He's in the alley behind the bank, kill him"
- ❌ Coordinating hits or raids through Discord calls
Examples of not being a dick:
- ✅ Chatting with friends about random shit
- ✅ "Come join the server"
- ✅ Discussing the game generally
We can't (and won't try to) police your Discord. But if it's obvious you're using it to gain advantages and ruin gameplay, that's metagaming and you'll be punished.
The test: "Am I ruining someone else's experience by doing this?"
